In October 2018 and September 2019 I was commissioned by the Clermont Group to create stills for their healthcare business Hoan My which is Vietnam’s leading private healthcare group comprising 15 hospitals and over 5,500 employees.
The brief was to capture a portfolio of images showcasing Hoan My staff serving the community and serving with heart as part of their culture. They wanted natural looking images and they wanted to show interaction between their staff and their patients so as to reflect positive relationships.
During the initial shoot we captured images at Hoan My Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City and at Hanh Phuc International Hospital in Binh Duong and then the following year I captured images at the Hoan My International Eye Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.
In the lead up to the shoots I worked closely with Clermont Group creative director Mitchell who provided a thorough brief of the concepts that they wanted to capture and a mood board with image examples showing the types of images that they had in mind. Mitchell joined me in Vietnam for the shoot in 2018 and he was absolutely fantastic to work with as we were able to bounce ideas off each other really effectively.
We did a scouting day before each of the shoots to visit all of the hospitals and I tried to prioritise rooms that had window light so that I could use the available light in combination with my own lighting.
On the shooting days we allowed about an hour for each concept and in most cases we used staff as patients and the hospital arranged permission with a few patients to be in the images as well. I invited my agency Noi Pictures to work on the shoot with me and their producer Lan worked closely with the team at Hoan My to organise what ended up being a really successful shoot.
Below is a gallery of some of my favourite images taken over four days.
And I’ll finish off with some tear sheets taken from “The Hoan My Story”.
